Job Opportunities (2023 – 2024)
We are looking for one graduate student and several undergraduate students to work on a USDA-funded project about robotics and sensors in animal farming. Scholarship will be provided: $10/hour and 5-10 hours/week (undergraduate student); $16/hour and 10 hours/week (graduate student).
Job opportunity 1: Integration of mobile robot with sensors for animal tracking
(FILLED)
The students will work with faculty and other students to integrate LiDAR with a camera and other sensors on a mobile robot. The students will test the robotic system in the Freeman Ranch and collect data.
Job opportunity 2: Development of a wearable sensor unit for animal behavior monitoring
(FILLED)
The students will develop a wearable sensor unit that includes RFID, a temperature sensor, an inertial measurement unit (IMU), and other peripherals. They will then place the sensor units on cattle in the Freeman Ranch and collect data.
Qualifications
- Pursue a degree in a major in Agriculture, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
- Minority students are highly encouraged to apply
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Preferred Requirements
- Have an overall and major GPA of 2.75 or above.
- Currently enrolled full-time and in good academic standing.
Expectations
- The students must submit a weekly report.
- Participate in the weekly meetings.
